Add some bling to your model engine
As Bogs will verify I really used to struggle getting a presentable finish on my model engines. In fact going back to my days of motorcycle restoration my attempts at getting a professional shine on say a timing chest cover met with dismal failure. All I achieved was a black glutinous mess.
See the video !
The turning point for me came when I viewed a video entitled Polishing small components on a lathe . This video was produced by Ralph ‘Dividedhead’ who has kindly agreed to my featuring his video on this site. Whilst Ralph chose to run his polishing mop on his lathe due to severe space restrictions in his workshop the polishing principles do of course apply equally to mops run on an adapted grinder machine.
As Bogs explained “Polishing is all all down to technique and prior preparation. The prior preparation being the main stumbling block. People think that polishing will remove machining marks, it won’t, and the finished results end up with a rippled finish. Get the faces smooth first, and the polishing takes care of itself, within reason.”
Now read ‘the book’ !!
